Quick answer

Start by choosing a stable, dust-free shelf, then group figures by theme or color, and use small risers or stands to create visual depth. For Asuka and Kuromi, pair them with matching accessories or lighting to highlight their unique styles.

Why grouping by theme or color works

Chibi figures are small and detailed, so grouping them by a shared theme or color palette helps each piece stand out without visual clutter. For example, Asuka's red plug suit pairs well with other red or warm-toned figures, while Kuromi's gothic-blue aesthetic fits a darker or cooler display area.

This approach also makes your display feel intentional rather than random, which is especially useful if you have a mix of series and styles.

The trade-off of using closed vs. open shelves

Open shelves make figures easy to see and rearrange, but they collect dust quickly. Closed cabinets protect figures but can reduce visibility and make the display feel less accessible. For most collectors, a middle ground—like a shelf with a glass door or a display case with a clear cover—offers the best balance.

If you choose open shelves, plan to dust regularly and consider using a soft brush to avoid scratching the figures.

Step-by-step display setup

Choose the right location: Pick a spot that's away from direct sunlight and high-traffic areas to prevent fading and accidental bumps. A sturdy shelf or desk with a flat, level surface is ideal. Check that the surface is stable before placing figures.
Clean the display area: Wipe down the shelf or case with a microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris. This prevents particles from settling on your figures. Use a lint-free cloth to avoid leaving streaks.
Group figures by theme or color: Arrange Asuka and Kuromi in separate clusters or together if they share a color scheme. Use small risers or stands to vary heights and create depth. Avoid overcrowding—leave space between figures so each one is visible.
Add lighting and accessories: Use a small LED spotlight or a string of fairy lights to highlight your display. Add themed props like miniature furniture or backdrop cards to enhance the scene. Ensure lights are cool to the touch and don't generate heat that could damage figures.
Maintain and dust regularly: Dust your figures every few weeks using a soft brush or compressed air. Handle them gently, especially if they have delicate parts like Asuka's hair or Kuromi's hat. If you notice dust buildup, increase cleaning frequency or consider a display case with a cover.
