Category: Role Playing Games

Asher's Ridge is a fully collaborative roleplaying game for 1 to 4 players, where you direct—and play through—episodes of an original paranormal drama television series. The game book guides you through a first game set in the fictional town of Asher's Ridge in the summer of 2026, and gives you the tools to create thrilling and mysterious supernatural episodes—or series—of your own.

Gameplay

During an episode – AKA a game – you foreshadow a paranormal threat to Asher's Ridge in short, atmospheric interludes and collaborate on scenes using a web of plot threads created from letter tiles. The threat escalates and becomes personal to your characters and tension builds as they take risks to address it. Eventually problems come to a head, for better or worse, and the episode ends in a dramatic cliffhanger.

What do you need to play?

  • 1 to 4 players.
    • Asher's Ridge is a fully cooperative, zero-preparation, game without a GM.
  • A set of poker cards (jokers included). Or, alternatively

    • The print-and-play Asher's Ridge card deck included with the PDF.
  • A set of 100 letter tiles, e.g. from Scrabble. Alternatively
    • The print-and-play letter tile set included with the PDF.

Setting

The market town of Asher's Ridge is located at the southern tip of Brightwater Lake, in the heart of the Lake District National Park. This hidden treasure is approximately 17 miles—as the crow flies—from Keswick, and sits in stunning surroundings crowned by the majestic Ridge.

Once known as Deerhead, according to the Domesday book, the area came to prominence with the arrival of John Hugh Asher in 1742. Asher was a woodsman of ambition who drastically transformed the town’s fortunes until a tragic accident, in 1761, claimed his life. His legacy lives on in the town’s name, as well as the eponymous Ridge from which he fell.

In 2026 the town is a popular tourist destination. Visitors range from wealthy members of a local sailing club, to backpackers and thrill seekers who explore the surrounding woods, caves, and hills. Locals caution against visiting certain areas unprepared, and there are a higher than average number of missing people, deaths, and unexplained phenomena.

Leo H. ★★★★★

We’ve played it two nights in a row with just my partner, and the 1-to-4 player setup means we never need a gamemaster to get a full episode going. The way it frames each session like a TV show script makes even our messy decisions feel like plot twists.

Riley ★★★★★

The collaborative storytelling really shines when you're figuring out how to pitch each episode, and the TV show framing makes character decisions feel high-stakes. My group had a blast creating our own paranormal series.
