Among the print-and-play community, Dragons of Etchinstone is a cult classic that distills epic, brain-melting strategy into a minimalist experience balanced on a knife’s edge. Chip Theory Games is partnering with designer Joe Klipfel to reimagine Dragons with gorgeous art and next-level production while staying true to the minimalist nature of the game. There are no dice. No chips. No backup plan. Just your brain and your 16 action cards against the adventure ahead!

Dragons of Etchinstone is a solo-only, palm-playable, Mage Knight-inspired pocket adventure from Joe Klipfel, co-designer of Gloomhaven: Buttons and Bugs. You play as an apprentice mage, venturing forth from the Tower to investigate the reappearance of dragons in Vale. The elder mages have issued an edict to cleanse the land of these legendary creatures, but you’ll need to survive the monster-infested regions of Vale first!

Eva ★★★★★

Even with the minimalist components, the strategic depth feels massive—I’ve played 15 rounds and still find new combos. The card-based decision tree forces you to plan three moves ahead, and it actually fits in my jacket pocket for coffee shop sessions.

Setup was a breeze with the print-and-play files, and the game's minimalist design somehow still delivers those tough strategic choices I love. The knife’s-edge balance really shines through every turn.
