Category: Role Playing Games

That Rug is a rules-lite tabletop RPG where you'll build a game world using one of those ubiquitous city rugs for kids (We all remember those, right?). The players roleplay as spunky kid investigators attempting to unearth a strange, scary, and probably supernatural plot unfolding in their hometown. More than a nostalgic throwback, That Rug is perfect for any group that wants to tell stories about kids confronting the unknown, whether a mid-80s alien encounter, something specific to your own life, or an original tale altogether.

That Rug can be played start-to-finish in a few hours with one GM and 3-5 players. The story is collaborative, with every player creating key characters and plots. Conflicts are resolved using simple and propulsive wagering mechanics, requiring no dice at all. And if you need a "that rug," we've included an illustration in the zine too.

The way it turns the classic kids' city rug into a full mystery world is genius—my group spent an hour just mapping out which rug squares were "too dangerous" to cross. The rules-lite setup meant we were playing within ten minutes, no lengthy character sheets or setup drag.

Avery ★★★★★

The rug-building mechanic is genius—my group spent the first session just mapping out our neighborhood. It instantly transported us back to being kids, and the rules are so light we jumped straight into the mystery.

We played this with my 8-year-old niece using her old playmat, and the rules-lite setup meant we were rolling dice within ten minutes. Four stars because the book assumes you already have a city rug on hand, which we did, but it might trip up some groups. The kid investigator角色 concept really shines
