Rebel Crown RPG

I've run three different courtly schemes now and the faction clocks really force you to think ahead about who’s betraying whom. The way stress pushes your character to desperate action feels just right for a game about backstabbing nobles.

The ambition clocks and the dice-chaining mechanics perfectly capture the backstabbing tension of court life. My first session left everyone scheming long after the game ended.

The Forged in the Dark system here is streamlined perfectly for tense courtly scheming, and I loved how the ambition mechanics pushed my character into risky, dramatic moves. My group's first session was a blast. The conflict rules actually made a dinner party feel as dangerous as a knife fight.
